Born and raised in Franklin, Michigan, Dan attended the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (Center for Creative Studies). After receiving his BA degree from Michigan State University, he attended graduate school at Western Michigan University.
Oberschulte has been influenced mainly by American and European artists of the late 19th century. Working mostly in oils, his subject matter includes landscapes, interiors, figural, and portraits. His works hang in private and corporate collections in the United States, Bahamas, Spain, Austria, Germany and France.
Dan’s love of travel provides him with opportunities to paint the scenery and people of French villages, Tuscan hillsides, and the dramatic Lake Michigan coastline and it’s quiet interior.
Dan maintains studios in Traverse City and the coastal village of Empire, Michigan, where he paints, sculpts, and restores antique oil paintings.
