Natural environments, specifically the beaches of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, inspire and inform my work. Beaches where the water meets the land, are full of mystery and surprise as one never knows what one will see or find. Here waves constantly create new patterns in the sand and the wind shifts sands into new forms. Wind and water help to reveal the always changing supply of found treasures: driftwood, stones, twigs, found objects, or rock – all elements of my work. Storms and season changes all add to the supply of these treasures and serve to mark within your memories or emotions that time and place.
Horizons on the big lakes, or where the water meets the sky also serve as inspiration for my work. Here the sky, the clouds, the color of the water, sunrises and sunsets are always changing, never the same. Like paintings that depict places and the memories they evoke, my work tries for the same emotions, recalling the time and place of those moments walking on the beach, or watching a sunset, summoning memories of that pleasant time and place.
