Story greatly influences the clay sculptures I create. Mythology and fairy tales are the starting point for most of the work, while form, color, texture and space are thoroughly considered. Human and animal characteristics are combined to tell stories of connection, interaction and transformation. Figures from paintings are recreated in three-dimensional form in order to bring them into our three- dimensional space and time. Monsters are made silly and combined with others to tell stories of community and connection. Sometimes the pieces have a sense of play and whimsy and sometimes viewers are presented with an opportunity for introspection and contemplation. The works created are a combination of ancient, contemporary and personal stories told in three dimensions.
