Artists > Ashley Benton
Ashley Benton is a mixed media artist working in acrylics, oil, watercolor, wax, resin, plaster, clay and collage. She holds a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Ashley’s work has been shown and collected nationally with work in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia , the Savannah College of Art and Design and numerous private collections. Her studio is currently in Atlanta, Georgia.
From the beginning of her practice Ashley has been interested in making new discoveries from old experiences. Bringing past impressions into the studio the work creates a new dialogue of the human experience. Although the thread of emotions, the sub conscious and use of symbols runs through all the work the pieces are diverse in medium. Starting as a painter, moving towards sculpture in plaster, bronze and metal she has focused recently in ceramics. The ceramics have been a way to work out the figures and animals in the paintings. “The sculptures allow me to see around the figures to give them more narrative and a larger life.” Ashley’s work is the continued search for answers to the subtle impressions left from living a life. Her work is everything and nothing, the unknown, the truth and a lie, pure emotion and connection to the self. Less than reality , more than a dream.
